What are we trying to achieve?

We are offering young local players (school years 3, 4, 5 and 6) the opportunity to access coaching that will support and run alongside their existing grassroots coaching at clubs and in schools. We will try to give our players detailed coaching and ideas for all aspects of the game. It is our aim to provide players with opportunities to develop not only as footballers but as people, who are creative and independent learners capable to making decisions and solving problems on a football pitch and in other social situations. We will strive to give players opportunities to experience football in different ways from the pitch, to tactics board and witnessing professional environments through trips to elite clubs.

How will we do it?

The sessions and the topics we will work on will follow 6 week cycles, with each 6-week cycle focusing on an aspect of the game, we will use a variety of coaching methods and practice type throughout the season, deliberate coaching practices will however feature each week and be central to each topic. These deliberate practices will look to develop new skills and ideas in realistic game situations, making decision under pressure rather than without pressure. Games will occur at the end of each cycle, with the possibility of games in the middle of our cycles, thus allowing us to focus on our topic in a game environment. Our opponents will vary from local grassroots teams to other development centres and academies in the region. As coaches we will look to continue our development alongside our young players to allow for the best possible outcomes. The content the players will follow is based on the FA’s level 2 curriculum and principles for attacking, defending and goalkeeping.

Our Philosophy

A philosophy is not something that is easy to develop and us has come from a multitude of sources, it may be easier to state what we would like our players to be able to do once they leave us. We use a model abbreviated to TIPS taken from many elite clubs around Europe.

  • Technical – To be able to control the ball in a variety of situation
  • Personality – To be creative, a team player and determined
  • Insight – Capable decision maker, developing football intelligence
  • Speed – Agility, acceleration and long distance

We will look to use at least 2 formations with in each team and try to give players options on how to win games from possession based to direct football. Finally it is important to note that we will be player focused and not result focused and looking at the processes of the game rather than performance or the final outcome.
